TALK NERDY TO ME

I write here. I'm a poet, playwright, and n<3rd.
This blog originally had a theme a week, on which I would make a number of posts related to that theme.
I stopped, because I'm silly. I want to get back to that...I will, soon.
I grew up in the Southeast (geographically) though the state I'm from is totally considered Southern (and it IS). I now live in the East.
Most my followers know me personally. But I love followers who don't.

Questions

A long time ago, a friend of mine asked, “5! 18! 34!”

The questions:

5: Do you like to use post-it notes?

18: What is your Song of the week?

34: Favorite kind of sandwich?

5 - Yes. I like using post-it notes. I have more than I can use, at the moment, but I do use them pretty often. I need reminders.

18 - The Office theme song. I’ve been watching a lot of The Office. (US version.)

34 - I really love the new Buffalo Chicken sandwich at Subway. But if I had to pick an “all-time” favorite sort of favorite, it might be really good pot roast sandwich with au jus sauce and provolone or swiss cheese. Sort of a ” French Dip,” sandwich.

nobody can save you but
yourself.
you will be put again and again
into nearly impossible
situations.
they will attempt again and again
through subterfuge, guise and
force
to make you submit, quit and/or die quietly
inside.
nobody can save you but
yourself
and it will be easy enough to fail
so very easily
but don’t, don’t, don’t.

Remember that there are only three kinds of things anyone need ever do. (1) Things we ought to do (2) Things we’ve got to do (3) Things we like doing. I say this because some people seem to spend so much of their time doing things for none of the three reasons, things like reading books they don’t like because other people read them. Things you ought to do are things like doing one’s school work or being nice to people. Things one has to do are things like dressing and undressing, or household shopping. Things one likes doing — but of course I don’t know what you like. Perhaps you’ll write and tell me one day.

Human beings are not born once and for all on the day their mothers give birth to them, but … life obliges them over and over again to give birth to themselves.

W. W. Norton: How to be Happy: Another Memo to Myself

wwnorton:

You start with your own body
then move outward, but not too far.
Never try to please a city, for example.
Nor will the easy intimacy
in small towns ever satisfy that need
you have only whispered in the dark.
A woman is a beginning.
She need not be pretty, but must know
how to make her own ceilings

theshowerhead asked: 5! 18! 34!

5. Do you like to use post-it notes?

Yes! Not everywhere. But I like them. I also like the stick-y page marker ones.

18. What is your Song of the week?

“She’s Got You High” by Mumm-Ra

34. Favorite kind of sandwich?

I don’t have one. I like nutella with bananas…but I don’t know if that’s a real sandwich. I like sandwiches with pesto and sun-dried tomatoes and mozzarella the most. And a good grilled cheese.

Stolen from “John and Fanny”

1. What’s a question you’re afraid to ask? To whom?

“What will I do if I feel this way forever?”, Sometimes, and myself. I push my own limits and sometimes it is painful, or I end up in dark places…and don’t always know how long I can handle it.

2. What’s something you hide about your personality?

I’m competitive. I don’t know if that’s hidden.

3. What’s something other people think about you that you don’t agree with?

That I’m innocent. I think I might be pure, but not innocent; I’ve seen and felt enough to know about the world.

4. How do you deal with criticism?

I don’t get personal criticism much. I love literary criticism of my work. The rougher, the better.

5. What’s the sweetest thing anyone’s ever done for you?

Tuck me into bed? Or maybe carve me a Snoopy pumpkin. Or buy me groceries.

6. What’s the sweetest thing you’ve ever done for someone?

A few things? I once made a journal with a question for them on every page, and on the one side of each page was my answer. The other side had room for theirs. I included Neruda and EE Cummings and CD’s in it, and at the end I said  ”fill this page with your heart’s desire” and I put a picture of them.

7. What’s something sweet you’d like someone to do for you?

Be there when they sob on my shoulder, and hold them when they want to fall.

8. Describe your favourite texture.

Cold, freezing water. Warm, smooth skin. Cold, crisp, clean bed sheets. I have a couple.
